Title: Museum Curator
Job Description:
The curator is the sole employee of the museum and wears many hats. The museum is open seasonally from May through September and hosts an annual convention in July.
During the open season, the primary goals are to give as many public tours as possible, to assist Annie Roberts with the annual Dummy Run 5K, and to actively participate in the annual convention. During the off season, the primary goals are to achieve archival progress, to create new exhibits, and to clean the displayed collection.
Objectives:
1. to protect, maintain, and preserve the Vent Haven Museum collection,
2. to maintain a positive relationship and reputation with the public, the press, and the ventriloquist community through educational tours and special events,
3. to manage the museum buildings, house, and grounds, and
4. to manage and accurately report the finances of the tours, premiums, and other financial donations.
Requirements:
The curator is the public face of the museum. To ensure a continued positive reputation for Vent Haven, he/she must be friendly, enthusiastic, and socially comfortable with all types of people. In addition, the curator must be able to set effective boundaries in a positive way. To manage the museum well, the curator must be organized and self-motivated.
The curator is evaluated at least once per year to help him/her with goal setting and to recognize outstanding skills.
Ideal candidates have prior experience with museum management, customer service, website management, and/or database management. Knowledge of ventriloquism history is a plus, but not a requirement.
